The Amazing Cuttlefish

The cuttlefish is a marvel of design with abilities beyond scientific understanding. It is in the same family as octopus and squid (cephalopods) with a smaller body and shorter tentacles. An ability to mimic other creatures or produce various colors helps it camouflage itself. Special mechanisms exist in its skin that allow it to “flash lights” like a strobe light to mesmerize its prey!

The cuttlefish can even mimic a rock or floating kelp. Evolutionary scientists cannot calculate what the cuttlefish came from of what it is “evolving” into. Could it be that the cuttlefish came from an all- knowing Creator Who gave it these special abilities? All of its components had to exist in the first cuttlefish, or else it could not protect itself from predators. The cuttlefish is a testimony to marvelous design, design that points to a Great Designer Who made everything.

Pangaea

Is it possible that the earth was one complete continent in the distant past? As we begin this subject, we must remember that no one living today can know this answer from direct observation. Rather, we must rely upon clues that exist in the present. Fossils, rock layers, volcanoes, earthquakes, and shifting plates do exist today, and these are clues that can help us in examining the past. Do these clues represent “millions of years” of history, or do they better represent a time frame of 6-10,000 years that is consistent with the Biblical record?

At the time of the Great Flood of Noah’s day, God’s Word refers to “fountains of the great deep” that were “broken up...” (Genesis 7:11).

If this is true, there is much involved in this statement:

1. Forty days of rain was not the only cause for the Flood.
2. Great geologic activity was involved in the Flood.
3. Such geologic activity would/could have changed ocean temperatures world wide as warmth was added from deep in the earth.
4. Warmer oceans would have changed the world’s weather to produce massive amounts of snow and ice.

If the oceans were lower, all of the continents would be connected by land. If after the Flood, melting glaciers raised the ocean level from a pre&045;Flood height that was only 2&045;300 feet lower, all of the continents would have been connected as one. Continents are not floating around like lillies in a pond.

“ Nessie ”

The famed “Nessie” of the Loch Ness of Scotland is quite an enigma as a plesiosaur-like creature that possibly exists in present times. While there have been hoaxes concerning alleged sightings and/or photographs, the Bible refers to creatures of the sea (or even on land) called “serpents” or “dragons” ^{(see Isaiah 27:1 or Nehemiah 2:13)}.

It is not yet clear if these creatures still exist, but if they lived in Bible times they could exist today! The unknown, decaying creature (pictured) hauled up off the coast of New Zealand in 1977 is one possible testimony to plesiosaurs existing in modern times. Though some say it is “almost certainly” the remains of a basking shark, testimony from the Japanese trawler asserts that it was a plesiosaur.

To date, over 11,000 sightings have been reported of an unidentified creature in Loch Ness. If the Bible is a trustworthy record of history, and “dragons in the water” (Psalm 74:13) existed in Bible times, they certainly could exist today!

The Wonder of Water

Water is totally necessary for life! Even its makeup is marvelous, being made of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen which are highly flammable! However, put together just right, hydrogen and oxygen form a marvelous substance that is used to put out fire! The earth is about 75% covered with it and the human body consists of about 70% water. Proper hydration can help a person lose weight or improve mental clarity, and it is essential to help the body operate properly. It makes sense that since blood consists of a high percentage of water, proper hydration can reduce risk of blockages. It is no wonder that the Maker of water knew His creation so well that He used it to represent spiritual cleansing, the purifying of His Word: Ephesians 5:26

“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.” Even a vessel containing water is important, for a lesser quality of plastic will leach chemicals into the water &8211; chemicals that the body does not need. The quality of plastic that is glass-like and will not break down long term is a number 7 grade (seen inside the recycle symbol).

The analogy is that we are to strive to be a “#7” spiritually without leaching human opinion into the “water” of God’s Word. Ideas such as the “Gap Theory,” “homosexualty is normal,” or ‘divorce is allowable’ are the leaching of human opinion into God’s Word that is not His design. We must allow HIS Word alone to permeate our lives and to do the work HE designed it to do: cleanse our “spiritual body” of all wrong!

Could Whales have lived on land?

QUESTION: What land-dwelling, wolf-like creature can breathe and eat like a whale? Not only would this imaginative animal have to change its OUTSIDE (become larger, lose its legs, and re-locate its nose), but it would also have had to change INSIDE by disconnecting its breathing from its eating passageways.

There IS NO EVIDENCE that a "pre-whale" could do this or that these changes actually took place!

The whale is designed so that it can eat under water. Creatures that live on land (such as humans) can go under water for short periods of time, but cannot eat underwater. For a land-dwelling creature to eat under water like a whale would mean that the passageways for air and food could NOT be connected. In other words, if whales “evolved” from a “wolf&0#45;like” creature over time, the creature would have gone through a transition time when it could neither breathe nor eat. This has not been observed nor can such a belief be called “science.” It is clear that the design of whales demands that there must have been a Creator who made them just as they exist today, creatures designed for life in the water.

Sharks are intriguing creatures that have awed mankind for thousands of years. There are more than 250 species of sharks, with the largest being the whale shark which is known to reach a length of 45 feet. Some sharks are docile while others are dangerous to humans. Most sharks live in waters too deep to be dangerous to humans.

Reconstructed jaws of a giant white shark reveal that the largest one ever discovered could have swallowed an object 3.5 x 5 feet in size! Through a “bite-meter” it has been found that the pressure of a sharks jaws in one bite can equal 18 tons per square inch!

Dr. Samuel Gruber is a leading shark researcher who says that sharks are not really vicious killers of humans and that elephants and dogs kill more! The eyes of a shark are 10 times more sensitive than the eyes of a human. Concerning the ability to make sounds, they have no vocal chords and the only sounds they make comes from their movement in the water or crunching with their jaws.

Does the Bible mention sharks? Not directly. However, sharks would be included in this reference:

“ And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly,” (Genesis 1)
